Corby gardeners resolute in re-development plans
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Tuesday, September 11 2007 10:30:00 by Leigh Jackson
Leigh Jackson writes: Allotment gardeners in Corby, Northamptonshire are refusing to budge after they learnt that their plots may be taken as part of ambitious re-development plans.
The land is currently owned by steel manufacturing giants, Corus who intend to sell the land as part of the move.
But the West Glebe Road tenants remain resolute. Commenting on the move, Dawn Wintle who works one of the plots told the BBC: "My thoughts are as most peoples are really, that people work hard on their allotments and it would be a shame to see it redeveloped."
She added: "If this site is reclaimed for development then it may well be that other sites need to be found but that they actually are not there in Corby at the moment so the borough council would probably have to reallocate some further land elsewhere."
Corus intend to apply for planning permission for the site within the next three months.
