Lawnmower racers rev-up and cause a stir
Mowdirect news > Lawn Mowers

Leigh Jackson writes: Garden equipment was put to an entirely different use as green-fingered speed demons raced for the American national title of lawnmower racing.
The event was held at the Delaware County Fairground and saw a range of gardeners and growers slug it out to become the fastest man in lawn trimming, Columbus Alive reports.
Racers are split into categories depending on the power of their sit-on, with classes ranging from spluttering 10 mph mowers to roaring engines that can reach speeds of up to 60 mph.
And for safety reasons, the blades are removed, with all racers are required to wear helmets, neck support collars and racing gloves.
Not wanting to resist a pun, the U.S Lawnmower Racing Association (obviously the sport is taken very seriously stateside) calls it the "grassroots motor sport".
Meanwhile, Dundee University gardeners had much less to smile about as their plea for help to the Scottish government, to maintain their £170,000 a year botanical gardens, was turned down.
