Green-fingered few battle it out for country garden title
Mowdirect news > Gardening News
Friday, September 14 2007 09:22:28 by Leigh Jackson
Leigh Jackson writes: A Devon gardener held off a shortlist of 30 elite competitors to claim the title of Country Gardener of the Year.
Jenny Daly won the award, adjudicated by the Country Homes and Interior Magazine, for her attractive outdoor space which features both wildlife and scented flowers, the local Express and Echo reports.
Modestly attributing her success to environmental conditions, Ms Daly told the publication: "This year's weather has been kind to the garden, because the soil here is very sandy and porous, so it needs a lot of fertiliser and water.
"The rain and windless weather over the summer has been really good for it."
She added: "My ex-husband was a keen gardener and laid all the foundations. When we got divorced, I took the garden on, which was daunting at first but also enjoyable. It is at its best in spring, but is very colourful throughout the whole year."
Aside from the title, Ms Daly scooped £2,500 of garden vouchers.
