Chippenham garden goes bananas

A Wiltshire banana tree has borne fruit for the first time in fifteen years, despite the unusually cool summer which the UK has been experiencing.
Westbury resident Paula Lott says that the bananas, which recently sprung up in her garden, "really surprised" her, the Wiltshire and Chippenham Times reports.
Banana trees generally grow in much hotter tropical climates, so for fruit to appear in such cool weather is especially unexpected.
Paula said: "There are about 80 on there and not even half of them have opened yet, so I think there will be well over 100 eventually.
"You expect to find them further south but not in Wiltshire."
Because the fruit have only just made an appearance, they are still very small, the newspaper adds.
The bananas should be ready to be eaten by the autumn.
