Mother creates commemorative garden for army son

A brave mother, who lost her army son in the Iraq war, has created a "special" commemorative garden.
Jamie Hancock died during fighting in Basra last November. His mother, Lynda Ledwith, created the tranquil space at her cottage in Glossop, Derbyshire.
The garden is also to be opened to the public for a special celebratory party, proceeds of which will go to the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF).
A special plaque at the site, addressed from Ms Ledwith to her son, reads: "The beauty of the garden reminds me of you; the tallness of the topiary reminds me of you; the flowers show their personality just like you."
Ms Ledwith told the Bolton News: "Jamie loved the garden here and the river that runs through it. He visited the cottage just before leaving for Iraq.
"I wanted to create a special place that would remind me of how brave he was."
She added that she had found the creation of the garden therapeutic, helping her to deal with the grief of losing her 25-year-old son.
Lt Col Philip Andrew, a regional director at the ABF, added: "The work that Lynda has put into creating Jamie's garden
is truly inspirational."
The cottage garden features a dolphin-shaped fountain, red roses - the symbol of Jamie's regiment - and patriotic flowers in the colours of the Union Jack.
