Garden in line for lottery prize

A popular Welsh garden was named yesterday as one of the finalists at the National Lottery Awards, to be decided by a public vote.
The £43 million National Botanic Garden of Wales, built with the help of over £20 million of lottery funding, was named as one of 21 finalists up for the prestigious awards.
The garden, opened seven years ago, was shortlisted in the Best Environment Project category, one of seven to be given out next month in a special ceremony to be broadcast on the BBC.
Each winner is to receive £2,000 towards their good cause, with viewers and internet users able to phone in or vote online for their favourites in each category.
The director of the garden, Kevin Lamb, said: "We have until the end of August to get enough votes to top the poll, so get behind the only remaining finalist from Wales and the most visited garden in the Principality, then get online or call the vote line."
Around 120,000 people visited the garden, situated near Carmarthenshire, in 2006.
Other projects shortlisted for the Environment award include Slimbridge bird haven in Gloucestershire, and the Dunes Coastal Park in the Outer Hebrides, the broadcaster revealed.
