The Edinburgh International Book Festival - one of the UK's largest - is to expand its use of the city's garden spaces in years to come.
According to the Scotsman, the festival, which took place over the weekend, now has a new five-year plan looking at opening new temporary sites in private gardens in the city's West End.
The festival is currently predominantly based in the beautiful Georgian surroundings of the Robert Adam-designed Charlotte Square.
Festival director Catherine Lockerbie said: "We can't get any more people into Charlotte Square.
"We know that in the New Town there are a number of very beautiful gardens that are closed to the general public."
Over 220,000 visitors flocked to the festival last year, with the 2007 event looking set to be the biggest yet. Around 700 events, with 650 authors featured, dotted the city during the event.
A-list literary guests such as Alan Bennett, Germaine Greer, Ian Rankin and Joyce Carol Oates - as well as belletrist Edmund White and poet Nick Laird - were all in attendance.
