Essex police warn about garden thieves

A spate of garden thefts in the area have led Essex police to warn local residents of the dangers of leaving valuable equipment in unsecured garden sheds.
Garden equipment including two lawnmowers, a strimmer, a chainsaw, a hedge trimmer and a leaf blower were taken from a Nazeing residence at the beginning of the month, the East London and West Essex Guardian reports.
The theft follows another robbery in nearby Loughton, which saw drills and a jigsaw machine stolen from a garden shed, as well as a child's bike - along with an incident in Ongar which saw a Bosch hedge trimmer stolen.
Local crime reduction officer Tony Ellis told the paper: "It's the summer time and garden equipment is an easy sell.
"The bigger the garden you've got the more likely you are to be targeted. Make sure your sheds are secured."
