'Best garden in Britain' named
The best garden in Britain has been named - according to the Daily Mail, that is.
A Walsall garden has won the newspaper-sponsored National Garden Competition for this year.
Tended by Marie and Tony Newton of Buchanan Road - who will win £2,000 and specially-commissioned signed photographs of their work - the garden had been visited by competition judges twice over the course of the year.
Mr Newton told the Walsall Advertiser that he and his wife were "stunned and delighted", as well as "very privileged and honoured" by the win.
"We were up against gardens in places such as Winchester and Stafford… I think this award is great for Walsall", he added, saying that the win represented the fulfilment of "a dream we have had for many years".
Open to the public, the garden has received 1,200 visitors, raising over £3,000 for charity.
