Gardening Oscars awarded
Winners of the gardening industry's version of the Oscars have been announced as Husqvarna, Westland, Miracle Grow and Borsch - all picking up gongs at this year's Garden Industry's Manufacturers Association (GIMA) Awards.
The GIMA Sword of Excellence went to Husqvarna and its Flymo Pac a Shredder, at an awards ceremony with 500 guests, hosted by Bobby Davro.
Other gongs went to Scotts Miracle-Gro liquadfeed plant feeding system, Cuprinol's power sprayer for fence treatments and the Town & Country mini fun BBQ range.
In the garden machinery category, the Pac a Shredder picked up the top award ahead of runners up the Gardena Turbo Trimmer and the Bosche Rotak 43LI rotary mower.
The award for best marketing went to Westland for its Unwins seed potato merchandiser.
Karl Jempson, director of sales for garden and leisure, told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph: "Seed potato sales were up for 2006 and the sales were very good.
"The public are very interested in growing their own vegetables and they have a greater understanding of the challenges.
"The Unwins point-of-sale encourages novice gardeners to give it a go, and the information provided on the packaging makes it very easy."
