Publican quits village over garden business feud

A village dispute over a garden business has finally ended, the Scotsman reports.
Ronald Ferrier, a pub landlord, first fell out with Alexander Gordon over a decade ago.
Mr Gordon originally wished to buy the pub's car park in order to extend his garden, and was turned down. Mr Ferrier has said that his neighbour subsequently organised a "dirty tricks" campaign to get his business closed.
The dispute boiled over at the bar one evening earlier this year, when Mr Gordon, accompanied by a group of friends, threatened to burn the pub down and then proceeded to menace customers.
Last week, he was fined the small sum of £175 by Edinburgh Sheriff Court for the incident, with the ruling acknowledging the "background of animosity" contributing to the outburst.
Mr Fillier says that his neighbour's behaviour is one of the reasons behind his decision to sell up, telling the newspaper that his neighbour "is just a pest and I can't understand his mentality. My attitude has always been live and let live, but he just can't help himself and gets himself very angry."
According to Mr Gordon, "I don't want any more trouble, especially with the police. We will see how things go with the new people if it is taken over."
