Garden centre sales hit by rains

Long summer evenings are traditionally a time for Britons to enjoy their gardens, whether by doing some light work, having a barbeque or even just sitting down and enjoying the view.
A weekend trip to a garden centre is also traditionally popular in the warm summer months.
However, the unusually cool and wet conditions, while making UK gardens unusually green for this time of year, have had a big effect on sales of garden furniture and equipment.
Research released by Legal & General this week claims that 67 per cent of Britons are not buying anything for their gardens this summer.
The survey also showed that just 11 per cent of those polled were considering purchasing a barbecue, and just ten per cent were considering garden furniture.
Ruth Wilkins, head of communications at the insurer, claimed that "although the bad weather means we currently don't have the opportunity to enjoy our gardens, the value of the items stored in the garden shed ready for when the weather improves can soon add up to more than people often appreciate."
The Met Office announced this morning that England and Wales are having their wettest early summer since records began in 1766.
