Restoration of historic Cumbrian garden complete
Mowdirect news > Gardening News

A two-year garden redevelopment project - funded by over £900,000 raised by company donations and gardening enthusiasts - has been completed, and marked with a celebration.
The gardens at Rydal Hall near Grasmere in Cumbria hosted their official unveiling ceremony yesterday.
About 450 guests were to attend, including radio personality Eric Robson and the Bishop of Penrith.
The formal garden was originally created by T.H. Mawson, the legendary Edwardian garden designer and author - known to connoisseurs as one of the great landscape architects of his time - who also designed the gardens at Langdale Chase and nearby Holker Hall in they typically opulent Edwardian style.
Opened in 1909, the garden's walls, terraces and steps had suffered in the wet Cumbrian climate in recent years, and were in need of restoration.
The project had also received a £15,000 grant from English Heritage. Lottery money and the local diocese - which owns the nearby Hall - also contributed.
