Bagma Apprentice of the Year named

A major award at this year's British Agricultural and Garden Machinery Association (Bagma) Apprentice of the Year award has been won by a 20-year-old employee at TH White in Marlborough.

William Giles, from Melksham in Wiltshire, was handed the Western Region award at the Royal Bath and West Show by HRH the Duke of Kent.

Currently studying NVQs in Agricultural Service Engineering at Wiltshire College, Lackham, Mr Giles impressed the judges with his knowledge and expertise of operating tractors and harvest equipment. He has expressed an interest to maintain and repair bailers in the future.

While at school, Mr Giles became involved in agricultural engineering and has impressed while working firstly at TH White's Devizes branch and thereafter from the Marlborough branch.

The Royal Bath and West website reports that Mr Giles' career in the garden machinery world has been helped by his "sense of humour and jolly disposition".

Bagma memberships are held by around 850 dealers from around the UK and the trade organisation seeks to represent garden machinery and agricultural dealers.
