Scottish gardeners are the least likely to go and splash out on a new lawnmower after research showed them to be the lowest spenders on gardening equipment in the UK.
Reported in the Daily Record, Scots spend the least out of all the Britons on maintaining their garden, though a gardening programme presenter has noted their scepticism about the accuracy of these figures.
Overall, Brits will splash out £4billion this year on gardening equipment, but where the table-topping Welsh spend £278 per year on their plots, the Scots fork out a measly £77.
However, Beechgrove Garden presenter Jim McColl, said that the figures didn't take the DIY aspect of Scottish gardens into account and were instead based upon the amount paid for manual labour.
"There's quite an element of DIY about Scottish gardeners, buying smaller plants and bringing them on," he continued.
"I wouldn't have been surprised if there was £20 or so between the Scots and others, but the discrepancy is so vast, I am sceptical about the figures and how the survey was carried out."
