Garden tool and machinery manufacturer Cub Cadet has put together a list of things to do to prepare your garden and the tools used to maintain it for the impending spring.
High on the list for budding garden enthusiasts is to clean and sharpen their lawn mower blades straight after mowing the first cut of the year.
Cleaning the undercarriage of your lawnmower is also advised by Cub Cadet, which claims that a thorough spring clean could add years to a mower's life span.
The manufacturer also recommends checking the spark plug, air filter and fuel filter for blockages, since dirty filters put the mower's engine under more pressure. Filters should be changed once a year.
Low oil levels can cause major engine problems, so gardeners are advised to check their oil regularly.
For tractor mowers, gardeners should follow the maintenance guidelines that come with the machine, since it will not only alert users to any anomalies when taking care of the mower but also will provide you with a schedule for checks and tests.
Finally, gardeners are advised to make sure their engine is switched off before undertaking any maintenance operations and to let the engine and its oil cool down fully before analysing any of the internal parts.
