Hints & Tips
Lawns should be looking their best at the moment, through of the country, after recent rains revived them from their parched slumbers.
You can cut them as short as you like at this time of year, and mulch the cuttings as well if you like, but should we get another really warm spell leave the cutting height a little longer – green lawns look much better than a patch resembling the Sahara dessert.
And if you need a new mower, have a look at these great summer bargains from Einhell, a leading German garden machinery designer.
We have nine of their great grass cutting machines in our summer sale, many new for this year and exclusive.
You can see the full list here, but to give you a flavour of what’s available and we’ve picked three of the best here. To give you an idea have a look at this one, the Einhell GC-PM 40 S-P Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmower.
The 99c engine is strong enough to handle sloping lawns and it has been designed with a high ejector chute to help collection of cut grass to the 50-litre grass box – this has an indicator to show when it needs emptying.
It has a polypropylene cutting deck to keep the weight down and make it easy to guide around flower beds.
New for this year it has already attracted positive reviews. ‘Love it – one third mowing time take off’ is a recent comment.
The recommended price is £249 but we have it for sale for £179. And that includes free delivery and a two-year warranty.
Here’s one for a larger lawn with a 47cm cutting width. And this has five ways of dealing with cut grass.
The Einhell GC-PM 47 SHW 5-in-1 Hi-Wheel Self-Propelled Petrol Lawn Mower lets you collect the clippings or mulch them, or for areas where the final appearance is not so important, you can discharge them to the side or back or let them drop back under the cutting deck.
A 139cc engine provides the power it is fitted with a special cutting deck and blade to help overall performance and grass collection.
The grass box holds a massive 75 litres and has an indicator to show when it is full.
It costs £249.95, a huge saving of £150 on the recommended price and is delivered free the next working day with a two-year warranty.
‘Difficult to Find Fault,’ and ‘Quality bit of Kit’,’ are two recent comments from customers.
And if you have a large lawn but don’t like tugging on a starter cord, this one should be on your list, the Einhell GC-PM 46/2 SHW-E Hi-Wheel Self-Propelled Petrol Lawn Mower with Electric Key Start.
With a 46cm cutting deck it is fine for lawns around 1200m2.
The 139cc engine starts with the help of a battery which charges itself when running – and should there be a problem there is a starter cord as a back-up.
It is based on a powder-coated steel cutting deck to resist corrosion and has been designed with a front grass comb to smooth the grass before it is trimmed, leading to a more even finish.
Cut grass can either be collected or discharged at the back – it has a 70litre grass box.
Exclusive to MowDirect it has a string of favourable reviews. “Great Mower at a Great Price” is a recent comment. Others can be seen here.
It costs £349.95, £150 off the recommended price and has a two-year warranty and free delivery the next working day.
