The MTD 53BS Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmower is excellent value for money with a Briggs & Stratton 150cc engine, again an easy starter. A high grade air filter contributes to a long working life for this engine which can tackle rougher, unkempt areas as well as smooth lawns.
American power: MTD M52BS lawnmower
Again there are six cutting heights from 20mm to 90mm and the mower has a very solid feel with a solid steel chassis.
It has a really large 80 litre grass box and a cutting width of 53cm.

The MTD S46SPOE Petrol Self-Propelled Lawnmower with an electric start eliminates the necessity of tugging on a starter rope to fire it up.
This one has an MTD ThorV engine, 159cc with very low emission figures and is mean on fuel.
With this mower you have the option of collecting the clippings, discharging them to the rear or mulching them – i.e. where the clippings are held in the cutting deck for longer and cut very finely before dropping back to the lawn where they rot away.

The Lawnflite LF43-SPBR Self-Propelled Rear-Roller Lawn Mower will give lawns the much-coveted striped finish.
Power is from a Briggs & Stratton 500-Series 140cc engine designed to start with the first pull of the cord.
Being a rear roller mower the cutting heights are lower – from 15mm to 65mm. To give you an idea, Wimbledon groundskeepers cuts its tennis courts down to 8mm.
The cutting width is 43cm and the grass box holds 55 litres but you can mulch the clippings if you prefer.
This one has an ABS polymer cutting deck, is rust resistant and lightweight.
The rear roller has a split differential so that it won’t scalp the lawn when turning at the end of the row.

The Lawnflite LF48-SPBR Self-propelled Rear-Roller Lawn Mower is a similar machine but with a slightly wider, 48cm, cutting width.
The engine from this one is a Briggs & Stratton 161cc and the cutting widths are from 15mm to 65mm with six settings. The grass box holds 70 litres.
This mower can handle rougher areas as well as smooth lawns where a striped finish looks great.

Now on to lawn and garden tractors and Lawnflite has an extensive range so there will be one to suit everyone.
The first is the Lawnflite RF125 Lawn & Garden Tractor. This is the one you should consider if your lawn is just a bit too big for a wide-cut lawn mower.
It has a 96cm cutting width and a turning circle of just 46cm and it has large wheels to give plenty of grip.
The Briggs & Stratton engine has Transmatic Transmission which automatically returns to the selected speed after braking.
Although, as a side-discharge tractor, it is suitable for areas like paddocks and orchards it can also handle smoother lawns easily with the addition of a mulch kit or grass box.
There are five cutting heights from 30mm to 95mm and the cutting deck has anti-scalp wheels fitted so it follows the contours of the ground and will not scalp the lawn.

This trailer can carry 340kg. And think of the year-round uses it will have, carting wood for the fire, fertilizer for the garden, compost, leaves and gravel.
The Lawnflite 603 RT Lawn Tractor has a single blade and a turbo fan to assist the collection of grass when it’s wet.
The fan blows clippings through a large chute directly into the grass box which holds 200 litres, and with a cutter deck offset to the left you can right go right up to garden walls and trees.

The running radius is just 46cm and the cutting width 92cm.

Lawn and Garden Tractor has a 500cc Briggs and Stratton engine and a hydrostatic transmission which works much like an automatic car.
It is fitted with large diameter tyre wheels to give plenty of grip and there are a large selection of attachments which can turn this machine into a year-round garden workhorse.
With this one the clippings are discharged to the side although you can buy a grass collector if you prefer.
