Gardening habits ‘are changing’

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has underlined its belief that the gardening habits of green-fingered Brits are currently in a state of change.

This is just as well, as the gardening charity has launched an initiative that aims to encourage people to realise the benefits of getting to work with the garden equipment in the autumn, as there is a significant amount achievable in the season that cannot be done at any other time of year.

Head of the RHS Garden Wisley's Plant Centre and Shop Nigel Eaton said that the last couple of generations have seen changes being made to the ways in which people maintain their plants.

"People have forgotten that planting in autumn whilst the soil is still warm gives gardens a head start on the year and helps plants to establish in time for spring when growth is at its peak," the expert commented.
